PROJECT DESCRIPTION:.

Exploring the use of a computerized avatar in the treatment of anorexia nervosa

What this research has shown.

In a small case series we found that the qualitative feedback about exposure to the avatar was found to be useful and of benefit in managing the anorexic voice. There was less change in some the quantitative outcomes, weight eating and general psychopathology . However the intervention was short as was the follow up period

Implications

These preliminary findings suggested that avatar exposure might be of value in the treatment of anorexia nervosa
